Milan, the second biggest city in the country, is the metropolitan hub of northern Italy. Cortina d'Ampezzo, on the other hand, is a ski destination nestled in the Dolomites.

Ski mountaineering will make its Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026, along with seven other fresh events at the Winter Games.

Taking place from February 6 to 22 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, next year’s games might be the most glamorous yet.

The games will take place across multiple regions in Northern Italy, making it the first Winter Olympics to bear the names of two cities: Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The sports event runs from Feb. 6, 2026, through Feb. 22, 2026, followed by the Paralympic Winter Games a month later.

The next Olympics are the first to have two official hosts, Milan, Italy’s second-largest city, and Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Dolomite ski resort where the 1956 Winter Olympics were held. The Games also sprawl across much of northern Italy, requiring six athlete villages.
