The Trump administration is preparing to send more immigrants with criminal records to El Salvador’s notorious mega prison on the heels of a Supreme Court order allowing the use for now of a sweeping wartime authority for deportations,

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration said Monday that it has deported 17 more “violent criminals” from the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 gangs to El Salvador, as it doubles down on a policy of removing people from the U.S. to countries other than their own despite criticism over lack of transparency and human rights issues.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia was arrested near his Maryland home in March and deported to El Salvador. His family has sued to force the U.S. to return him.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court said that the Trump administration is required to "facilitate" the release of a Maryland man who was wrongly deported to an El Salvador prison. The court partly granted and partly rejected an emergency request filed by the Justice Department contesting a judge’s order that Kilmar Abrego Garcia be retrieved from a prison in El Salvador where he was sent on March 15 along with alleged Venezuelan gang members.

The unanimous order called out the government’s argument that the man should stay in El Salvador as “plainly wrong.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday required President Donald Trump’s administration to “facilitate” the return of a Maryland man mistakenly deported to El Salvador but stopped short of requiring the government to return him to the United States.
