The Broncos tried (and failed) to claim two tight ends off the NFL's waiver wire on Monday. Denver put in claims for Brendan Bates and Ben Sims, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, but those players were awarded to the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings, respectively, because those clubs were higher in the waiver order than the Broncos.

Schultz leads the Texans with 32 catches and ranks second with 308 yards. The only other tight end on the active roster is Harrison Bryant. Cade Stover is on injured reserve with a broken foot and not back for at least a few more weeks.

Lucas Krull originally hoped to return from injured reserve after the minimum four weeks due to a foot injury, but instead, he ended up having surgery Monday to repair a metatarsal fracture. He’s now expected to miss in the neighborhood of eight more weeks, a source told The Denver Post, which means most of the remaining regular season.
