The Trump administration reportedly asked FEMA officials to produce a list of employees that could be targeted for firings—the latest agency to come under scrutiny of the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency that is leading a mass-layoff effort to reduce government spending.

The tax agency is laying off 7,000 employees, but there are protections for taxpayers whose refund payments are delayed.

A tearful executive at the U.S. Internal Revenue Service told staffers on Thursday that about 6,000 employees would be fired, a person familiar with the matter said, in a move that would eliminate roughly 6% of the agency's workforce in the midst of the busy tax-filing season.

The Trump administration terminated 243 Transportation Security Administration employees, according to Bloomberg, and is also reportedly planning to significantly slash staff in an agency that handles efforts to rebuild communities after major natural disasters,

The Transportation Security Administration is tasked with protecting transportation centers and was created in the wake of Sept. 11.

The TSA confirmed the terminations of 243 probationary workers, citing "performance and conduct issues" with the employees.
