At least one person died and more than a dozen buildings collapsed after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck northwestern Turkey 's Balikesir province. At least 29 people suffered injuries after the tremor shook the ground at around 7.53pm local time on Sunday, interior minister Ali Yerlikaya said.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake has struck Turkey’s northwestern province of Balikesir, killing at least one person and causing about a dozen buildings to collapse.

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake as well as several aftershocks rocked a huge swathe of Turkey on Sunday evening, with the epicentre in Turkey's Balikesir province
