Federal prosecutors have told a judge in Maryland the government plans to initiate deportation proceedings against Kilmar Abrego Garcia and to deport him to a country that is not his native El Salvador upon his release from a Tennessee jail.

Attorneys for Kilmar Abrego Garcia filed an emergency motion Thursday seeking to have him returned to Maryland as he awaits trial on human smuggling charges.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s lawyers warned he could be deported this weekend, as the Trump administration acknowledged third-country removal as an option.
