The New York Jets signed United Football League standout kicker Harrison Mevis and released veteran kicker Anders Carlson on Wednesday. Mevis, who earned the popular nickname “The Thiccer Kicker” for his 5-foot-11,

Anders Carlson, one of five kickers the Jets used last season and the only one who remained on the roster for the spring, was waived to make room for Mevis. Carlson was 8-for-10 for the Jets after signing with them late in the year following his release from the 49ers.

The New York Jets signed former undrafted free agent Harrison Mevis to the roster Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Mevis most recently spent time with the Birmingham Stallions as one of the top kickers in the UFL.
