A conservation group says it will pay $60 million to buy land outside the Okefenokee Swamp from a mining company that spent years battling environmentalists over its plans to extract minerals there.

An Alabama company's plan to mine near the border of one of Georgia's natural wonders has been stopped after years of fights with conservationists.

The landmark deal ends a years-long fight over a proposed mine next to one of the South’s last truly wild places.
