Two Texas Tech University police officers were shot and injured early Tuesday morning during a confrontation outside Jones AT&T Stadium. The suspect was killed at the scene, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. as the two university police officers checked on a suspicious vehicle in a school parking lot near Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock Police Department officials told CBS. The suspect got out a gun and fired at the officers, police said.

The two officers who were shot were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement from the Texas Tech Police Department.
