PHOENIX (AP) — Diana Taurasi is retiring after 20 seasons, ending one of the greatest careers in women’s basketball history.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is considered by many to be the greatest basketball player in the history of the game and with the end of his career looming, it is important for everyone to appreciate him while he is still active.

In an exclusive conversation with TIME, Taurasi reveals publicly for the first time that she’s retiring from basketball. “Mentally and physically, I’m just full,” says Taurasi, who played all 20 of her WNBA seasons for the Mercury. “That’s probably the best way I can describe it. I’m full and I’m happy.”

With a flair for heroic plays and her trademark bun hairstyle, Taurasi was voted by fans in 2021 as the WNBA’s Greatest of All Time.

In the announcement released via an interview with TIME, James offered the highest of praise for Taurasi, whom he's known since they both suited up for Team USA at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Young stars such as 2024 Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark and the Sky’s Angel Reese are spearheading the WNBA’s launch into the mainstream. But there’s still a class above them at the helm.
