Senate Republicans unveiled their new budget blueprint Wednesday afternoon, paving the way for the Senate and House to finally inch closer to advancing President Donald Trump’s immigration and tax agenda.

The Senate voted 52-48 to begin debate on a multitrillion-dollar plan that would cut taxes, boost spending for immigration enforcement and the military and raise the debt limit.

As in an earlier Senate plan, the new framework also calls for $150 billion in new defense spending and $175 billion for border security. That previous plan would have left tax changes for later, but Trump and House leaders preferred to roll up their agenda in what the president dubbed “one big, beautiful bill.”
