TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — DuPont and two other companies will pay New Jersey up to $2 billion to settle environmental claims stemming from PFAS, commonly referred to as “forever chemicals,” the companies announced Monday.

New Jersey reached a $2 billion settlement with DuPont and several of its entities to resolve a lawsuit over “forever chemical” contamination at four industrial sites, which state officials called the largest environmental settlement ever achieved by a single state.

DuPont and a handful of related companies have agreed to provide New Jersey with more than $2 billion to clean up pollution, pay for environmental damages and settle multiple lawsuits with the state, Attorney General Matt Platkin and Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn LaTourette announced Monday.
