After several hours of emotional debate, MPs voted in favour of the bill, which will now be scrutinised by the House of Lords.

More than 300 MPs backed a bill that would allow terminally ill adults with a life expectancy of less than six months to apply for an assisted death.

Just one of Northern Ireland’s 18 MPs voted through assisted dying legislation in the House of Commons on Friday. While the legislation will not apply to the north, MPs at Westminster voted narrowly by 314 to 291 to pass the Terminally Ill Adults Bill for England and Wales.
