A convicted child-killer and rapist was denied parole by a jury, according to prosecutors, nearly a decade since his crimes shocked Santa Cruz County and the rest of the country.

Prosecutors argued that Adrian Gonzalez, who raped and murdered an 8-year-old, is still a risk to the community and should remain in prison. Jurors agreed.

On July 26, 2015, then-15-year-old Adrian Gonzalez, kidnapped, raped and murdered his neighbor, 8-year-old Madyson “Maddy” Middleton.
