Since Hubert Davis became UNC’s head coach in April 2021, he has maintained a preference for only having former Tar Heels on his staff.

The hire comes three weeks after head coach Hubert Davis declared on the Carolina Insider podcast in early February his intentions to hire a general manager.

The revelation comes at a time when North Carolina is in jeopardy of missing the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons.

Contract was amended and signed in December 2024 after Tar Heels won the 2023-24 ACC regular-season title and Davis was named ACC coach of year.

North Carolina has signed men’s basketball coach Hubert Davis to a contract extension that ties him to the program through the end of the 2029-2030 season. According to a copy of the contract, the deal was officially signed in early December — despite being initially agreed to on July 1,

The latest deal includes a raise and pays Hubert Davis an average of $3.2 million in base salary and supplemental pay, up from about $2 million on the previous deal reached in July 2022 that ran through the 2027-28 season.
