The 2025 Major League Baseball Spring Training season is underway on the Suncoast. The Tampa Bay Rays made the short driver over to North Port from Punta Gorda well worth it. The Tampa Bay Rays win four to two at the Atlanta Braves home away from Georgia on the Braves opening day of Grapefruit league action.

Ricardo Genovés, who hit a walk-off single in a spring training game against the Atlanta Braves on Monday, said he is open to doing whatever the Tampa Bay Rays ask him to do.

In the top of the ninth, he made an error with one out that allowed the Braves to score two runs and tie the score at 4. Genoves made amends a few minutes later. After prospect Brayden Taylor opened the bottom of the inning with a double, Genoves followed with a single that delivered a walkoff 5-4 win.

AJ Smith-Shawver gave up a quick run to the Rays, getting pulled in the first inning, but the Braves were able to send him back into the spring training game.

Making his first start of the spring as he works his way back into the Rays’ rotation, Drew Rasmussen really only ran into trouble about an hour before first pitch Monday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park.

NORTH PORT — After two days without much of either, the Rays got sharp pitching and a couple of key hits Sunday. And, thus, they also got their first win of the spring, beating the Braves 4-2.

The Braves would love to get Anderson back to top form, as the right-hander is 4-0 with a 1.25 ERA in the postseason.

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves are set to kick off their 2025 spring training with an away game against the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1:05 p.m. at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida.
