Landmark campaign finance rules approved by Oregon lawmakers in 2024 might be pushed back by four years, amid widespread concerns the state won’t be ready to enact them by their planned 2027 start date.

Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read said he’s considering collecting statewide information to pin down the accuracy of recounts.

The report found the 2024 presidential election saw a drop in Election Day voting and a corresponding increase in early, in-person voting. Election Day voting declined from 49% in 2022 to roughly 37% in 2024, when 35% took advantage of voting early.

A last-minute effort to delay Oregon’s campaign contribution limits from taking effect for another four years won’t move forward, Secretary of State Tobias Read confirmed Friday.
