State Sen. Mark Peake said he’ll step down Dec. 31 as chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia after eight months in the role, following big election losses.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Mark Warner announced his bid for re-election in a video posted to social media Tuesday.

Virginia Sen. Mark Warner has announced he’s running for reelection to the U.S. Congress in 2026. He made the announcement in a video statement released Tuesday morning.

To recap, Virginia Democrats captured the governorship (Abigail Spanberger), the lieutenant governorship (Ghazala Hashmi) and the attorney general job (Jay Jones). They also rode that sweep into flipping 13 seats from red to blue, including two in Central Virginia that represent significant portions of the Tri-City area.
