Colorado voters have approved a ballot measure that imposes a new tax on firearm sales. The revenue generated from Proposition KK will go toward victims' services.

Colorado will become one of the first states in the country to impose a tax on the sales of guns and ammunition. Proposition KK, a measure referred to the ballot by Democrats in the Colorado General Assembly earlier this year,

Colorado Proposition passed an excise tax on firearms and ammunition to help fund mental health efforts. The measure would add a 6.5% excise tax on guns, firearm parts and ammunition sold in Colorado.

Proposition KK appears likely to pass, with roughly 54 percent of Coloradans voting in favor of the measure as of 8:40 p.m. The proposition imposes a 6.5 percent excise tax on gun sellers for all firearms, ammo, and add-ons like scopes. The Associated Press called the race Wednesday morning.
