Major League Baseball trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox are the ultimate wild-card team. That can be taken literally, as Boston begins play Thursday with a half-game lead on the final Wild Card playoff spot in the American League.

James Tibbs III, the top prospect coming to the Red Sox in the Rafael Devers trade, notched his first hit with the organization Wednesday night. Currently ranked as Boston’s No. 6 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Tibbs recorded a single the other way to left field for AA Portland in a home loss to Akron.

Even after Rafael Devers was traded, The Athletic believes that the Red Sox still have the top trade chip in baseball.
