The Vikings received 55.86% of the vote, beating out the Crook County wrestling team, which finished second with 27.59%

The second annual Rhode Island girls wrestling state championships saw significant growth, with 50 participants across 12 weight classes, compared to 31 wrestlers in fewer weight classes the previous year. Scituate High School won the team title with 105 points, led by individual champions Jolene Cole, Chloe Ross, and Abigail Otte.

Brown Deer/Messmer/Shorewood junior Makhi Rodgers took his shot in the final seconds, trailing 7-4, at securing a match-tying takedown, but it was not to be. Tanner Gormanson of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln put the match away in the third period with a takedown off of Rodgers' move, securing the D1 285-pound title in a 10-4 final.

The high school wrestling season concluded with impressive victories for several Section V athletes, as they clinched state championships over the weekend.On Saturday, three Section V boys emerged as state champions.

There were an ample amount of high school state wrestling championships happening across the four state area this weekend. Coming out on top with a state title in the 155 pound weight class was Girard’s Kaylen McAtee.
