Tyler Bailey, a Columbia attorney, has been hired to conduct an independent investigation into the patient's death.

A 12-year-old boy who died of a brain-eating amoeba was identified as Jaysen Carr. Carr was diagnosed with a deadly brain infection on July 7 and passed away on July 18. He is believed to have been exposed to the organism while swimming in South Carolina's Lake Murray.
