The voting was super close at the top of the AP Preseason Top 25. No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Penn State are separated by a mere five points.

Texas earned the No. 1 spot in the preseason AP Poll for the first time in the program's history on Monday morning. The Longhorns slot ahead of No. 2 Penn State and No. 3 Ohio State, who beat Texas in last year's semifinal. The Longhorns and Buckeyes will kick off their 2025 seasons with a highly-anticipated rematch in Columbus on Aug. 30.

After the coaches tabbed the Longhorns as the nation's top team last week, Texas was voted as the No. 1 team in the first AP Poll of the campaign released Monday. Since 2000, only USC and Alabama have won the national championship after starting the season ranked first.
