A police officer killed by an active shooter in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday spent part of his childhood in Massachusetts, the New York Times reported.

Officers responded to reports of an active shooter at a CVS pharmacy on the edge of the CDC’s campus at roughly 4:50 p.m., Atlanta Police Department Chief Darin Schierbaum said at a press conference. There, they found a critically injured officer from DeKalb County. The officer was rushed to the hospital but later died, officials said.
