Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent criticized Elon Musk 's new political party, saying the world's wealthiest man wasn't a popular part of the Trump administration. Asked about Musk's move, Bessent told CNN's Dana Bash that the ideas behind the administration's Department of Government Efficiency effort, also known as DOGE, were "very popular."

Musk, who had been a close ally of the president, announced on X Saturday that he would be forming the “America Party.” His decision was based on an X poll that he posted on July 4, where he asked users on the social media website if there should be an America Party.
