New York is on track to lose out on $750 million in Medicaid funding this year thanks to the federal budget cuts agreed to in Washington last week. State officials also expect to see at least $3 billion in federal funding disappear in the next fiscal year.

Medicaid helps pay for 41% of births in the U.S., according to Kaiser Family Foundation. In rural communities, it covers nearly half. President Trump's new spending bill cuts Medicaid's federal funding and largely leaves it up to the states to decide if and how to supplement care.
