Liam Coen evaluates play of recent Jaguars' addition on defense
Cornerback Greg Newsome hasn't been with the Jacksonville Jaguars for very long, but head coach Liam Coen is encouraged by his growth within Anthony Campanile's defensive scheme. Newsome, whom the Jaguars acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, has only played in two games at this point since arriving in Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are the most penalized team in the NFL and until they clean it up, they'll continue to struggle in games against good teams.
Amongst the position groups that need to see an uptick in production is the defensive tackle room. Through seven games, the Jaguars' defensive tackle unit of Maason Smith, Arik Armstead, DaVon Hamilton, Austin Johnson, and Khalen Saunders have combined for 3.5 sacks, four tackles for loss, and seven quarterback hits.

One particular issue continues to be a big problem for Jacksonville Jaguars
Not a lot went right for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Sunday's loss to the LA Rams. But in the midst of all that went wrong, one major underlying issue continues to be prevalent -- penalties. The Jaguars were penalized a whopping 13 times for 119 yards in this game.
Entering their bye, the Jaguars' eight sacks were tied for fewest in the NFL. It starts with Josh Hines-Allen getting going, but includes everybody.
