Forty-five artists—calling themselves USA for Africa—participated in the recording of “We Are the World,” including four future Country Music Hall of Fame members: Ray Charles, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kenny Rogers. Conceived by actor-singer Harry Belafonte, the song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and the recording was produced by Quincy Jones and Michael O
