May first is the day when all studded snow tires must be removed from Maine automobiles. It's a state law. I was able to remember, yesterday, that my city issued Ford Fusion was still equipped with steel studded snow tires, so I dropped it off at the motor pool for them to put some less aggressive sneakers on the SOJ (sled of justice). When I was dropped off today to pick up the car, my sergeant and I decided to head to Wendy's for a chili. He ended up in front of me at the drive-thru, and I kne

The mechanized ballet was somehow captured on the dash cam of Officer Mike Brennan's Runwaymobile (built by George Barris in 1967, soon after he built the Batmobile). Oddly, Brennan--a huge fan of ballet--was meditating (on a federally mandated break) to George Balanchine's "The Nutcracker" on Spotify. The stage? Bangor's only International Airport. Bangor International Airport Have a great Sunday. LT(RET)TC BPD *Hyperbole was utilized in this post. Mike Brennan actually built the Runwaymobile i

The camaraderie between police officers cannot be understated. Being able to depend on your partner is one of the things that makes our bond strong. If you stumble, they are there. If you fall, well...they are there, but only until they find out that you are not badly injured. At that point, partners tend to run back to the cruiser to make a notation in the recording system so that they can find the fall later. You know, to show all of the other people that could not be there to watch you in all

A dusting of snow allows us to observe two police department employees finding a moment to reflect on a spring without an opening day. Tom Graban from the parking division--in hi-viz yellow--lives a quiet life at our agency. He takes it upon himself to keep the cruisers clear of snow after most storms. No one asks him to do it, he just does. Tom is a better employee than he is a batter. Detective Steve Pelletier--on the mound--removes baseball sized lumps of damp spring snow in order to provide

He ain't Memphis Raines, but this ain't Long Beach, and his Eleanor is probably going to end up being a stolen Schwinn tandem in turquoise and white but that didn't stop this character (actor) from trying doors over on Fruit Street. Cowboy boots are the bane of a quick getaway when the driveways and sidewalks are covered with ice. But, to give him credit, it appears his chosen internal lubricant had more of an effect on his swagger and (in this case) sway. Our fashion team has determined that a

Soon after the dog slipped his collar, he was struck by a car. The owner was understandably terrified when the dog regained his composure and left the area quickly. She had no idea what the extent of his injuries might be, so she called us. Cops show up when there is no one else to call. Remember that. Officer Mike Pina began to check the area for the missing dog and located him when the runaway pooch made a break for it from under the cover of darkness. In this Bangor Police Department Dash-Cam

Officer Larvelle Jones aka Michael Winslow of Police Academy 1 and 2 took over one of our cruisers this afternoon. He is playing at Seasons on Main Street tonight and tomorrow night but still found time to stop by Bangor PD and have some fun with the microphone. He had us laughing when he gave a new voice to the Duck or Justice. We appreciate him spending time with the on duty officers and letting us get our photos with him. He visited dispatch and our administrative staff. What a gentleman. Tha

Jesi brings joy to all who do not traffic in narcotics. Friendly, jovial, and a little bit nosy; you have nothing to worry about if you have determined that the only thing you hide in your "personal spaces" are a pack of gum, some car keys, and a photo of the baby. As for the rest of you, well, enjoy the friendly nature of this little bundle of energy, scratch her head, and dream of the day that you get out of jail so you can—again—pat the soft noggin of a pooch. It's gonna be a long Thanksgivin

Of course, some of you won't understand. No, not the fact that some Sundays can be boring when you are policing the jagged right hand edge of America. More so that exiting the police department wash bay can be made interesting by reliving famous television moments of your misspent youth. Yeah, you need a soundtrack, and the wind in the background lets everyone know that you didn't overplan for this production. What it does show is that even when Sgt. Robinson leaves the washbay, his supportive s

Our concern for blanketing America, and several other countries, with Bangor Police Department Duck of Justice decals and clings was that some of those who sport them might represent us poorly. So far- 100 % of the blue vehicles representing the Duck of Justice have appeared to follow basic traffic rules. Namely- utilizing blinkers. The proof of this claim was documented by Brandy Mills-Cain today at an intersection in Bangor. Brandy is the chief cook and bottle washer, or something, at the Trav

While we know the summer swelter is swiftly slipping away, and a winter wonderland waits in the wings, we wanted to take a second to state somewhat on the subject of safety. Did you know you shouldn't be riding your bike, skateboard, scooter, e-bike, one-wheeler, etc., on the sidewalk? It's true. Probably because once upon a time it scared the horses. Now, it's for safety. Imagine a bicyclist colliding with a pedestrian and seeing a bountiful basket of baked goods bashed? Or a an antique heirloo

When you are 12 years old, there is no better way to get around than climbing on a bus and just relaxing. Just letting the guy in the front take you where you need to go. The issue that we see here is that a 12 year old is DRIVING the bus. Yes, he stole it. Now, he would not win one of those school bus rodeos nor would he get cookies and cakes from adoring parents at the end of the year for how he conducted himself with all that precious cargo in the back. But, as a "glass half full" kind of guy

It appears that Raye is figuring it out and with zero requests for extra clues or the *phone a friend* lifeline. Enjoy the video, and your day. Officer George Spencer signed off for the last time today, after 26 years with the Bangor Police Department. That's a long time, especially when the additional years at other departments are tacked on. When we do that math, it's a total of 37 years as a police officer. Throughout his career here, George served on the bike team, as a Field Training Officer, as a member of the Special Response Team, and gathered an incredible amount of stories. He told us some today and they were all entertaining.

Rookie Officer Robert Hallet has been quite clear that he is an extremely fast runner. His claim to his Field Training Officer is that he could easily beat him in a foot race. Officer Dustin Down is no slouch when in comes to running but he has told me that he believes Hallett could easily outrun him. However, when you are new, it is better to downplay your strengths rather than to make claims of superiority. Especially when you were recently outsmarted (as well as outrun) by a dog with 4" legs.

Special Enforcement Team members Officer Jimmy "That" Burns and Evan "Eddie" Haskell were to be working an area on the west side of Bangor looking for outlaws, scofflaws, and possibly in-laws (if they were involved in illicit activity). They found bees. Haskell told me that prior to this encounter, the closest he ever came to bees was the picture on the box of Honey-Nut Cheerios. Burns didn't say much at all. Burns is like Silent Bob, more so now since he started working with Haskell. We get it.

This is the now Retired Sgt. John Robinson, of the Bangor Police Department. Two days ago it would have just said Sgt. John Robinson. What a difference a day makes. This past Wednesday, April 30, 2025, John Robinson called it a career after a total of 36 years in law enforcement. The last 28 were with Bangor PD, and included stops at Bucksport PD, Hancock County Sheriff's Department, and Bar Harbor PD in between. John is originally from Boston. Southie to be specific. After Officer Brooker shared his video with some of his "friends" at the police department, some felt that they could do better. Officer Shannon Davis and Officer Tyler Rusby decided to try a little Karaoke in the cruiser before heading out on patrol. Both videos went ISV. That's, In Station Viral. Then the call went out for the BPD Facebook followers to vote for the best. Your likes will be tallied by methods that are mildly reliable. Watch and vote. For the record, Rusby's voice has been used

Special thanks to Officer Eric Lund and Officer Andrea Gurecki for kicking it up a notch with some dance—with complimentary “jazz hands” We’re gonna be all right.
