When Great Journeys New Zealand launched its new Scenic Plus service on the Northern Explorer, we jumped on board to experience it for ourselves. Between making sure the mouth-watering food was served on time, the guests were comfortable and the crew was on track, Customer and Crew Manager Katy Meadows took us behind the scenes to find out more. 🛤️ KiwiRail owns and operates Auckland’s rail network, so we have a key role in testing the City Rail Link (CRL) to ensure it’s safe and reliable ahead of opening next year. 🚇 Since the first test train ran through the tunnels in February, KiwiRail and our partners, Auckland Transport City Rail Link, have completed over 1,500 test journeys! 📣Journeys through Ashburton are safer, after a major upgrade to the intersection at Walnut Avenue was completed in November. 🛤Rail works included a full level crossing upgrade with the installation of new half arm barriers and flashing lights and bells for both pedestrians and vehicles, plus electronic main and emergency pedestrian gates.
